Medicaid is an essential part of American health care, helping improve the health and financial security of millions of Americans every day. It’s especially important for the 42 million children who are enrolled in Medicaid or the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP). While parents might lose their Medicaid coverage during the redetermination process, their children are likely to remain eligible for Medicaid or can move to CHIP. Health insurance providers are committed to ensuring that children have access to health insurance coverage as the Medicaid redetermination process continues. Innovative efforts include:

  • Health Net is working with the L.A. County Office of Education to share a Medicaid redetermination toolkit with every school district in the county. Using school communications channels will help make parents and families aware of the process and seek any help they need.
  • Kaiser Permanente is funding the development of Medicaid redetermination resources for school districts and childcare providers, such as an educational video series on the unwinding process, a Medicaid redetermination toolkit, fact sheets, and information webinars. Kaiser Permanente is providing talking points, FAQs, and flyers so school staff know how to support families and students.
  • °ä±ð²Ô³Ù±ð²Ô±ð’s Peach State Health Plan in Georgia has co-hosted a series of neighborhood block parties with the Boys & Girls Club and provided Medicaid renewal educational materials to parents during summer camp pick-up times.
  • °ä±ð²Ô³Ù±ð²Ô±ð’s WellCare of North Carolina is partnering with Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools to connect with parents and school administrative staff and map out Medicaid redeterminations preparedness plans for families.
  • Several Medicaid managed care organizations (MCOs) have also partnered with the Chicago Public School system on Back to School events to highlight Medicaid redetermination. The MCOs have encouraged parents and students to make sure that the state Medicaid agency has their correct contact information.
Health insurance providers will continue to help keep children covered, providing the coverage choices that are essential for healthier people, healthier families, healthier communities, and a healthier nation.
