Health Insurance Providers Fighting for Equitable Administration of COVID-19 Vaccines

An online published yesterday in the New England Journal of Medicine’s Catalyst Innovation in Care Delivery details the toll COVID-19 has taken on communities of color, the role inequities play in the administration of the COVID-19 vaccines, and how health insurance providers have created and led public-private partnerships to improve vaccine distribution and uptake in historically underinvested and underrepresented communities.

The article points to the work of ÐÜèÊÓƵand the Blue Cross Blue Shield Association through the Vaccine Community Connectors (VCC) pilot initiative, a commitment by health insurance providers and others to removing barriers to vaccinations for 2 million Americans most at risk of COVID-19. VCC partners are using innovative tools including member education and outreach, transportation support, and analytics to reach communities across America with the lowest vaccination rates.
