11 Top Voices Join Medicare, Medicaid, Duals & Commercial Markets Forum

Government officials, health care experts, health insurance providers, and industry thought leaders will gather to focus on the most pressing policy priorities, emerging issues, and regulatory updates at the èƵ2023 Medicare, Medicaid, Duals & Commercial Markets Forum.

General sessions at the March 2023 event will span a number of challenges and promises facing the health care industry in the immediate future, including overcoming barriers to health equity, improving mental health care, making prescription drugs more affordable, and driving market innovation.

Here is a closer look at some of the speakers headlining the upcoming forum in Washington, D.C.

Health Policy Makers Look to the Future

Health care coverage and innovation remains at the top of the to-do list for the administration as well as state and federal policymakers attending the forum. Health policy leaders are sure to comment on all the major news surrounding Medicare Advantage.

  • Tim Engelhardt, director of the CMS Medicare-Medicaid Coordination Office, will share ѳ’ priorities for dual eligibles.
  • Two CMS deputy administrators — Ellen Montz and Daniel Tsai — will shed light on CMS priorities for the Medicaid program and the Marketplace in a post-pandemic future.
  • ѳ’ Meena Seshamani will talk about the future of Medicare, including policy updates and market innovation.
  • Micky Tripathi, national coordinator for health information technology at the Department of Health and Human Services, will share an update on transparency and interoperability requirements. He'll be joined by Alexandra Mugge, director and deputy chief health informatics officer, Health Informatics and Interoperability Group, at CMS.

Industry Leaders Offer Inside Perspectives

Health care executives will offer practical advice and unique insights on policies, rules, and regulations that are transforming the health care industry.

  • Michael Sherman, Point32Health EVP and chief medical officer, will head a panel discussion on making prescription drugs more affordable. A sneak peek of his session? Gene therapies. recently reported that drugmakers who “were once reluctant to charge more than six figures” have now introduced new products for rare genetic diseases that can carry list prices in the millions. “When you think about hundreds of gene therapies under development, if we’re fortunate enough that they all work, there’s a concern about the collective budget impact. Each time we see a new gene therapy they are at a higher price point,” Sherman told the WSJ.
  • Dr. Joneigh Khaldun, CVS Health vice president and chief health equity officer, will preset to forum attendees. In January, a new initiative that will address barriers to care in underserved communities across the country — so it’s timely that Khaldun will sit down with CMS Innovation Center Chief Medical Officer Dora Hughes on Wednesday afternoon to deliberate the challenges and opportunities in overcoming barriers to health equity. We had a chance to speak with Dr. Khaldun .
  • Emily Brower, SVP of clinical integration and physician services at Trinity Health, will also provide the private sector perspective on a panel discussion and update on driving innovation.

Big Debate Takes the Stage

This unique event covers every aspect of the health care industry — as well as bringing together diverse and distinctive voices for thought-provoking conversations.

On Tuesday at the forum, èƵPresident and CEO Matt Eyles will sit down with Pharmaceutical Research and Manufacturers of America (PhRMA) President and CEO Stephen J. Ubl for a wide-ranging discussion on drugmakers, the future of life science innovation, and the impact of the Inflation Reduction Act.
