Press Release

Published Oct 5, 2022 • by AHIP

Washington, D.C. – October 5, 2022 – èƵissued this statement following the release of a Request for Information from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), which seeks proposed approaches to improve the accuracy of provider directories to help patients and consumers find a health care professional that fits their needs and preferences:

“Every American should be able to find a care provider that is skilled in the type of care they seek, that is convenient to consult, and that they are comfortable working with on their personal care plan. We all must work together to ensure that patients and consumers are getting the most accurate and up-to-date information available about in-network providers. èƵappreciates that CMS has created this forum for dialogue on this essential priority.

“Health insurance providers are committed to making accurate provider directory information available to all Americans. It is critical that provider directories reflect the most up-to-date information to help answer key questions as Americans and their families choose their health care coverage and to enable consumers to maximize the value of their health coverage. Maintaining accurate directories is a shared responsibility between clinicians, facilities, and health insurance providers. A cohesive, national approach to building a technology-enabled infrastructure will help ensure accuracy, reduce burden, and improve efficiency. èƵlooks forward to engaging with CMS and other stakeholders to find solutions for the benefit of the consumers we serve.”
